Foods can cause a histamine response,
meaning we would see...
- Rashes
- Sneezing
- Watery & Itchy Eyes
- Blocked Nose
- Swelling (think bee sting!)
These symptoms are no fun at all and what can be even more challenging is trying to figure out what is causing them! It can be so confusing and super frustrating!
Foods can actually ‘modulate and down-regulate’ the histamine response, meaning they can support that immune system to not fear the exact thing that may be causing the response.
But fermented foods make me worse!
This is true, to a point! But let me explain the difference between a wild ferment and a cultured ferment. Then I will explain which one is safe for you if you have histamine intolerances.
Wild ferments absorb bacteria and yeast from the environment (air, the food itself, the soil it was grown in), and there is no way to clearly determine what strains of bacteria are in it or the potency of these strains.
Cultured ferments, like the Kultured Wellness culture starters, have very specific strains of bacteria that assist with balancing and supporting your health, and the potency of these strains are able to be measured.
Cultured ferments are the ones you want to consume and look for if you are the type of person whose body responds quite significantly to traditional ‘fermented foods’.
